Kayunga District Local Government on Thursday 29 August 2019 received an assortment of planting materials supplied under Operation Wealth Creation to facilitate improvement of household incomes in locals through commercial agriculture.
The items distributed include seed items 15000kgs of Maize and 11000 Banana plants. The district however soon expects 5500kgs.
The items will be supplied to locals in villages of Kangulumira, Nazigo, Busaana Trading center, Kayunga Trading including special interest groups like the Youth, Women, the elderly, and PWDs.
According to the district agricultural officer Ms Ann Bulya who received the items, special interest groups will be given priority during distribution of the items.
She noted that farmers in Bbaale, Galiraaya, Kitimbwa, Kayonza and Busaana will be given maize seeds since the crop fares well in those areas, but the challenge is that the quantity of supplied items are not as much.
She appealed to farmers who received the items to ensure that they plant them to and take good care of their fields since this time the program is targeting improving the standard of agricultural products through value addition.
The delivery and distribution of plant materials was witnessed by Maj. Sseruwo Jimmy, &Maj. Ssenyonga Muhammad on behalf of OWC program.
