Thousand of participants turned up for the MTN Kampala Marathon this morning. The Kampala Marathon is one of the biggest races in Kampala.

Flagged off on Sunday morning by the Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng at Kololo independence grounds, the marathon is an annual event organized by Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) as part of its Social Corporate Responsibility programs.

The marathon brought together people from all walks of life; the young, the old, those running for medals, and those running for fun.

The proceeds from this year’s event will go to efforts by the Health Ministry to improve maternal health. Also, over 123 M will be given away in cash prizes for the winners in all categories.

Denis Cherotich bagged 1.5M after winning the 10km race in under 30 minutes.

Sauline Cherangat won the women 10km race in 35 minutes and 29 seconds.

The marathon is organized by Uganda Athletics Federation and MTN Uganda as they are the main sponsors.
