The Ministry for Presidency has presented to parliament a budget request of 924M to cater for procurement of medals for distribution at state functions.

The request is part of the Budget Framework Paper (BFP) for the financial year 2020/2021, presented to parliament by officials from the ministry on Wednesday.

Among other requests presented to the Presidential Committee, is also 7BN which will cater for the swearing in ceremony of the elected president in the upcoming 2021 general elections.

Medals and decorations are conferred to individuals for their distinguished contribution, and supported by The National Honors and Awards Act 2001, which provides for recognition and conferment of titles of honor to potential medalists.

The medals are awarded by the president on state functions, and the selection of beneficiaries is conducted by the presidential awards committee, also enshrined in the Act.
