Aspirants who wish to express interest in running for various political positions under the People Power Movement have been given two more weeks to do that -according to Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, the People Power Spokesperson.

The period for People Power nominations has been extended due to the overwhelming numbers of aspirants wishing to associate with the pressure group among other reasons.

According to Ssenyonyi, 6200 aspirants for various positions had filled People Power forms but due to transport challenges for those from areas upcountry and poor internet internet connectivity in regard to online applicants, the exercise had to be extended.

Up to the deadline date (17th July, 2020), aspirants were seen at the People Power pressure group head offices in Kamwokya, returning their nomination forms for different parliamentary seats and other different posts in the government of Uganda.

By yesterday, Umar Magara who is in charge of receiving the nomination forms at the People Power head offices said 396 people had so far been nominated for the posts of the as Members of Parliament and more are still bringing in their nominations.

In a puzzling turn of events, former Makerere researche fellow, Dr. Stella Nyanzi picked nomination forms for People Power, a few days after she returned forms for the opposition Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) at party Headquarters.

Nyanzi is seeking to contest for the Kampala Woman MP seat currently occupied by Hon. Nabillah Nagayi Sempala. However, Nabilah has already expressed interest in the Kampala City Mayoral seat.

Speaking after picking forms, Nyanzi took a swipe at critics stating that she can pick forms from both People Power and FDC because one is a political party while another one is a pressure group.

“You hear people say I am mad to pick these forms; I am FDC but i believe in People Power as a pressure group” Nyanzi quipped. She says she has been a People Power supporter right from its inception.

Dr Nyanzi told journalists that she is only widening the scope for her chances of winning the seat.

Aspirants from across the spectrum have expressed interest in associating with People Power in the next election including musicians including Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wines brothers Eddy Yawe, Mickie Wine, and many others.

Yesterday, musicians; Sadat Mukibi alias Khalifah Aganaga, Derrick Katongole commonly known as Victor Kamenyo, Muhammad Ssegirinya Kawempe North Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) councilor and many others were witnessed as they returned their nomination forms with different political interest in the areas they reside in.

Former Kamapala Mayor, Al-Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebagala also expressed interest to contest for the mayorship for Kampala under People Power.
