One confirmed dead, another critically injured after building structure collapses in Kisenyi

Police at Old Kampala are investigating the circumstances in which a retaining wall for a storied building at a construction site in Kisenyi II parish in Nakivubo collapsed, killing one man and injuring another.

The deceased victim was only identified as Kato and the owner is a one Hajji Katimbo.

According to KMP Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, soil collapsed on two workers, who were carrying out an excavation at a construction site at about 9am at Mbiro Zone, Kafumbe-Mukasa Kisenyi II, Central Division in Kampala City.

Owoyesigyire said the two victims were rescued and rushed to Doctors Clinic, Mengo, where one only identified as Kato succumbed to the injuries.

KCCA Deputy Executive Director Eng. David Luyimbazi and Kampala Central Mayor Salim Uhuru were joined at the construction site by police as investigations kick off to assess the damage and the cause of the accident.

Eng. David Luyimbazi said the owner of the building had been granted KCCA permit to construct and the incident came as an accident. He also indicated that an order has been issued suspending construction work at the site pending conclusion of investigations into the incident.
