In the notice issued by the NUP acting president Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, the
National Executive Committee of the National Unity Platform which sat on Monday this week, resolved to recall Mpuuga from the Parliamentary Commission unless he provides a satisfactory explanation in writing over “serious accusations of Corruption and Abuse of Office in relation to the 500million “service reward” he was allegedly awarded by Parliament at the end of his tenure as Leader of opposition.

The notice to Mpuuga, which the NUP leaders claim was delivered on Tuesday, highlights mismanagement of public affairs and abuse of office by the leadership of Parliament which they say has evolved into a scandal.

In the document, Dr. Zedriga refers to a meeting of February 28, 2024 in which Mpuuga publicly admitted to receiving the cash reward. According to Zedriga, the act goes against Section 9(1) of the Leadership Code Act 2002 but also illegal and immoral in relation to NUP values.

“At it’s sitting on 4th March 2024 (to which you were invited but did not attend) the National Executive Committee considered the serious accusations against you and resolved to ask you to show cause in writing, why you should not be recalled from the Parliamentary commission to which the party seconded you as a member. You are requested to respond within seven days from the date of receipt of this notice to enable NEC take an appropriate decision” the notice reads in part.
