The Uganda Bureau Of Statistics (UBOS) has extended the deadline for the Census enumeration in Uganda up until May 25th, 2024 to ensure that every individual is included.
The 10-Day exercise which kicked off at midnight of 9th May 2024 was supposed to end today, Sunday 19th May 2024. This is the first Census for Uganda where population data is captured using a digital technology system.
In an update issued on 18th May 2024, UBOS Executive Director Dr. Chris Mukiza enumerated a number of challenges the exercise has suffered so far including some areas where the counting did not start on time due to login difficulties, some villages missing on the system, and slow progress occasioned by constraints in mobility especially in hard-to-reach areas.
As the final day falls, Chris Mukiza noted that most of these challenges have been addressed and the exercise has been largely successful, but enumerators have been given an opportunity to continue to mop up those areas until those areas are covered.
“As a result, such areas have been given an opportunity to continue until they complete their assignments. This waiver (for mopping up) shall however not exceed 25th May 2024” Dr. Chris Mukiza stated in a statement addressed to City Administrative Officers, town clerks, municipal town clerks and KCCA Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka.
“This is therefore to inform you to request the household heads who have not been enumerated during the past days to make appointment with LC1 chairpersons to agree on the date and time when they can be enumerated before end of the waiver period” he added.
Dr. Mukiza also directed the supervisors of the census exercise to ensure complete coverage and quality assurance.
