6th JANUARY 2025: The Ministry of Works and Transport today rolled out the Third Phase of the Digital Registration Number Plates.

During this phase, the Ministry of Works will first handle vehicles entering the country for first-time registration.

The venues for the registration and issuance is Malaba Border Entry Point, and Mutukula Border Entry Point. The services will however be extended to selected car bonds across the country.

The cost of Digital Registration Plate is UGX 714,300/=

However, replacement of old plates with the new plates costs UGX150,000 for vehicles and UGX 50,000 for motorcycles.

The MoW&T emphasized that your vehicle must be registered in your names for this migration.

How to Access ITMS Services: Register and Pay for Digital Number Plates

Step 1: Registration and Login
1. Visit the ITMS portal: https://portal.itms.ug/

2. Click on “Register”: Fill out the registration form with required details

3. Verify your account: Check your email for verification link

Step 2: Navigation and Service Selection

1. Login to the ITMS portal: Use your registered credentials

2. Select desired service: Choose from available services (e.g. Single and Bulk orders)

3. Follow prompts: Complete required fields and upload necessary documents

Step 3: Application and Payment

1. Submit application: Review and confirm your application details

2. Make payment: Use available payment options (e.g., online banking, mobile money)

3. Receive confirmation: Get a confirmation message and reference number.

HOW TO PAY FOR DIGITAL NUMBER PLATES.

Transfer the funds according to the details with the obligatory indication of the invoice number please!

Step 1: Login to the ITMS Portal
1. Visit the ITMS portal website (https://portal.itms.ug/).

2. Click on “Login” and enter your registered username and password.
Step 2: Navigate to the Digital Number Plate Service.

1. Once logged in, click on the “Services” tab.

2. Select “Vehicle Registration” from the drop-down menu.

3. Click on “Digital Number Plate”.

Step 3: Select Your Vehicle
1. Enter your vehicle’s registration number or select it from the list of registered vehicles
linked to your account.

2. Click “Next”.
Step 4: Choose Your Digital Number Plate Option.

1. Select the type of digital number plate you want to purchase (e.g., standard, premium).

2. Review the costs and features associated with each option.
Step 5: Make Payment.

1. Click “Proceed to Payment” to initiate the payment process.

2. Select your preferred payment method (e.g., online banking, mobile money, credit/debit
card).

3. Enter the required payment details and confirm the transaction.

Step 6: Download or Print Your Digital Number Plate Receipt.

1. Once the payment is successful, you’ll receive a confirmation message and a receipt.

2. Download or print the receipt for your records.

HOW TO PAY USING:
1. AIRTEL MONEY.

1. Dail *185# press yes.
2. Select option 7- financial services.
3. Select option 1-Banks.
4. Select option 7- Stanbic bank
5. Enter account details for Virtus Global Security company (ITMS)
6. Enter amount to pay
7. Enter pin code
8. Share the POP with the ITMS team.

2.MTN MOBILE MONEY.

1. Dail *165# OK
2. Choose option 6 – financial services
3. Choose option 1- send to bank
4. Choose option 2- Stanbic bank
5. Choose option 2-to another bank
6. Enter account number.
7. Enter reference
8. Enter pin code
9. And share the POP with the ITMS team.
