MUKONO DISTRICT, 14 May 2025: Two bodies of suspected cattle thieves are still lying in the city mortuary following a police operation that recovered three heads of cattle intercepted in Mukono, being ferried in a Toyota Prado TX.
The suspected cattle thieves were intercepted at Nakasajja Trading Centre today at about 3AM during an operation by officers at Nagalama Police station.
According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, it all started when officers on routine patrol at Kalagi Trading Centre along Gayaza Road, noticed a Prado TX registration number UAZ 797G, moving suspiciously.
Owoyesigyire says that when the police signaled the vehicle to stop, the occupants instead sped off prompting a police chase until the vehicle was intercepted at Nakasajja Trading Centre.
“During the operation, some suspects fled while two suspects sustained injuries and were pronounced dead en route to the hospital,” Owoyesigyire noted.
He says that efforts are currently underway to identify the origins of the recovered cattle and to ascertain the identities of the suspects who fled the scene.
“The bodies of the deceased suspects remain unidentified and are currently at the City Mortuary pending postmortem examination.” He stated.
