Fatal Road Crash on Kampala -Jinja Highway Claims 3 lives, 9 seriously injured

Mukono Police Division is investigating a fatal road crash that occurred on May 20, 2025, at 9 pm along the Kampala-Jinja Highway in Mukono Municipality, (specifically at Wantoni), claiming at least three lives.

The incident involved multiple vehicles, including a Fuso (UBB 422U) and several Toyota Hiace taxis (UBP 359W, UAW 042E, UAQ 398L) and motorcycles (UFL 976T, UFN 916P, UEU 698W, UDK 495B, UDZ 777A, and others).

The crash resulted in three fatalities: two unidentified male adults and a male juvenile. Nine people were injured, including Ssaku Paul, Zafafu Bakiti, Sazza Bashir, Lubega Gerald, Kakumirizi Jackson, Nasaza Aisha, Nafuna Irene, Lubega Denis, and Bisirikira Juliet, among others.

According to the PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police, SSP Patrick Onyango, the alleged cause of the crash is brake failure, with the Fuso driver losing control and veering into the opposite lane, crashing into taxis and motorcycles at a taxi stage. The driver fled the scene, and police are continuing investigations.

The bodies were taken to Kawolo Hospital for autopsy, and victims received medical attention at various health facilities.
