KAMPALA 25 JUNE 2025: The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the nomination dates for candidates seeking to contest and become members of parish committees for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) -including Youths, Older persons, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). The nominations will take place on Thursday June 26th and Friday 27th, 2025.
According to Julius Mucunguzi, the Spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, interested candidates must have been elected to village-level committees for Youths, Older persons, or Persons With Disabilities during the recently-concluded SIGs committee elections.
“We want to inform all those that are interested in being part of committees at parish level for the tree categories of Special Interest Groups to go to your Sub-county, ward, or town council headquarters, pick the forms, fill them and return them tomorrow the 26th of June and Friday 27th.” Mr Mucunguzi stated.
The Electoral Commission has also clarified that only those who were elected at village-level committees do qualify to contest or participate in the next tier of elections. For instance, village committees for youth in a parish will elect the parish-level committee for youth. The same applies to other categories of SIGs.
The Electoral Commission encourages eligible candidates to participate in the nomination process and emphasizes the importance of following the guidelines and procedures set forth for the elections.
