KAMPALA, UGANDA TUE 08 JULY 2025 – The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has announced it is actively investigating incidents of violence related to the ongoing electoral process, including physical assaults, property destruction, and vandalism of election materials. The UPF said it has made several arrests related to recent incidents in Mubende, Isingiro and Rubanda districts.
In Mubende District, on July 7, 2025, a violent confrontation erupted at Kapapa Kyetotoroge trading centre between supporters of Mr. Muhumuza Henry, a candidate in the NRM primaries, and Mr. Kabanda David, also a candidate. Gunfire was exchanged, resulting in injuries to one Gumisiriza Roger. Several individuals were also assaulted with sticks and bricks. Furthermore, two vehicles (registration numbers UBP 452K and UBP 788J) and one motorcycle (UFU 345X) were set ablaze at Nakinimba sub county headquarters. Police have arrested three suspects in relation to these incidents, and investigations are ongoing. The injured were transported to Mubende Regional Hospital for treatment.
Isingiro District saw a similar incident on July 5, 2025, in Kyempisi cell, Kikagate sub-county, where two motorcycles and one vehicle were set ablaze. Ten suspects have been arrested in connection with this incident, with others still at large. On July 7, 2025, a security meeting was held with all political parties and NRM electoral officials to promote peaceful conduct during the primaries.
In Rubanda District, on July 3, 2025, a violent incident occurred at Hakashanje Playground, Nyakahanga Cell, Bushura Parish, Hanchuhanbo Town Council. Around 4:40 PM, stones were thrown at Hon. Henry Musanizi’s convoy as he was leaving after delivering an address, damaging his vehicle. Additionally, campaign posters put up by the minister’s agents were reportedly destroyed. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this incident.
Across these three incidents, a total of 16 suspects have been arrested, though some individuals have fled their homes. The UPF condemns all forms of violence and assures the public that perpetrators will be held accountable. Investigations and operations are continuing as the UPF remains dedicated to maintaining peace.
