The Ugandan forces -Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF) under Operation Shujaa in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have captured Allied Democratic Forces rebel leader Musa Baluku’s base camp in Apakwang, Ituri Province.
According to a short statement from the UPDF, the rebel camp was captured after air and artillery strikes last Sunday morning. “UPDF troops advanced and captured a huge camp that used to accommodate 1,000 to 1,500 terrorists and their families. This was achieved on Thursday, 10th July 2025.” The statement shared on social media reads in part.
“The UPDF forces also captured huge gardens of rice, beans and cassava. Hot pursuit against fleeing ADF remnants further west in the offensive is ongoing.” The statement adds.
Ugandan Army troops have been fighting in the neighboring DR Congo alongside the FARD in an operation to hunt the ADF which has terrorising the area for close to a decade. In the statement shared by the Ugandan Army Commander, Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba, the UPDF thanked the FARDC for their co-operation and comradeship.
