KOBOKO, WEST NILE 24 July 2025 -The Koboko Chief Magistrates Court has convicted and sentenced John Taban Moro, a Parish Chief, to six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charge of Theft of PDM funds.
This follows the arrest and arraignment of Moro in court by the State House Anti-corruption unit (SHACU) along with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP). A statement from SHACU notes that they had gathered conclusive evidence in Leku Parish, Drania Subcounty, Koboko District, that the accused had stolen millions of shillings meant for PDM and made unauthorized payments to his family members, including his father, brothers, and sister-in-law.
“This action was in direct violation of the PDM guidelines, which prohibit civil servants and family members from the same household from benefiting from PDM funds.” A statement from SHACU reads in part.
Moro was also ordered to refund the money, which he did. The court also issued a warning to all civil servants about the consequences of stealing money intended for poverty eradication programs.
