Ugandan Football legend, Denis Onyango, Kenya’s Victor Wanyama and Tanzanian legend Mrisho Ngasa unveiled the new trophy for the much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 ahead of the continental tournament kickoff.
The official opening match for CHAN 2024 will be between Tanzania and Burkina Faso at the Tanzanian National Stadium in Dar es salaam city on Saturday, 2nd August 2025 (8 pm). Uganda’s opening match will come on Monday, 4th August 2025 against Algeria at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (8 pm).
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) picked three of the continent’s most celebrated football icons for the event. The TotalEnergies CAF CHAN, PAMOJA 2024 is set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from 02–30 August 2025. The milestone for the East African nations was lobbied through the leadership of respective governments especially Uganda ‘s President Yoweri Museveni, the Parliament led by Rt Hon Anita Among and the Federation of Uganda Football Association led by Hon Moses Magogo Hasim.
CHAN 2024 also serves as a rehearsal tournament for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda prior to the 2027 AFCON championship.
The three legends showed prestige to a special video released to mark the occasion, underscoring the significance of the new trophy and its alignment with the values of African football.
The video and photo-shoot took place besides Africa’s largest freshwater body, Lake Victoria.
Apparently, Lake Victoria is shared by all the three East African countries; Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
This is the first time in the history of this competition that three countries will co-host the event.
