KAMPALA 07 AUGUST 2025: The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced adjustments to the schedule for the nomination of candidates for the 2025/2026 General Elections. The changes affect nominations for parliamentary and local government councils, with revised dates and procedures outlined in a press statement by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Local Government Council Nominations
The nomination period for Local Government Councils, which was originally set to run from September 3 to September 12, 2025, has been disaggregated by the level of government. The new schedule is as follows:

* District/City (Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors): Nominations will take place from Wednesday, September 3, 2025, to Friday, September 5, 2025, at the respective District/City Returning Officer’s office.

* Municipality/City Division (Chairpersons and Councillors): Nominations are scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, to Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the respective District/City Returning Officer’s office.

* Sub County/Town/Municipal Divisions (Chairpersons and Councillors): This exercise will be conducted from Thursday, September 11, 2025, to Wednesday, September 24, 2025, excluding weekends, at the respective County Headquarter.
Nomination forms for District, Municipal, and Sub-County councillors can be collected from the District/City Electoral Commission Office starting Monday, August 11, 2025. Forms for District Chairpersons will be available for download from the Electoral Commission website (www.ec.or.ug) on the same date.

Parliamentary and Presidential Elections:

The nomination period for Parliamentary Elections has also been adjusted. The new dates are Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and Thursday, October 16, 2025, and the nominations will be held at the office of the respective District/City Returning Officer. Nomination forms and guidelines for Parliamentary Elections will be available for download from the Electoral Commission website (www.ec.or.ug) starting Monday, August 11, 2025.

For Presidential Elections, the collection of nomination forms, supporter forms, and guidelines will occur from Monday, August 11, 2025, to Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Presidential aspirants must collect these documents in person at the Electoral Commission Head Offices in Kampala. This physical collection is intended to allow the Commission to identify and document aspirants and to notify relevant authorities across the country to provide necessary support. Aspirants for independent candidacies must show proof of voter registration, while those representing a political party must present a written authorization from the party’s Secretary General or a designated official.

The Electoral Commission’s statement also thanked stakeholders and special interest groups for their participation in the ongoing electoral program. A soft copy of the full roadmap is accessible on the Electoral Commission’s website.
