NRM boss faces Disciplinary Action after openly Campaigning for Opposition candidate

MUBENDE, 12 September 2025 – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has issued a disciplinary summons to Mr. Okello Fred, the General Secretary of the NRM Veterans League in Mubende District, for allegedly campaigning for an opposition candidate. The summons, dated September 13, 2025, requires Mr. Okello to appear before a disciplinary committee on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the RDC’s Boardroom in Mubende.

According to the letter signed by the NRM Mubende District Chairperson, Thomas Ainebyona, Mr. Okello is accused of attending a campaign launch for Hon. Dr. Fred Mukasa Mbidde, the Vice President of the Democratic Party (DP). Dr. Mukasa Mbidde intends to run for Member of Parliament for Buwekula County, a seat contested by an official NRM candidate. The event took place on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Kigondo LC1, Karama Parish, Butologo Sub-county.

The letter copied to NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, further states that Mr. Okello’s actions are considered a “gross” violation of the NRM Constitution and Code of Conduct. He is accused of campaigning for a candidate from another political party and against the NRM’s official candidate. The NRM leadership also noted that Mr. Okello wore NRM party attire during the event, which “further aggravat[ed] the misconduct”.

The disciplinary committee members include the Chairperson NRM, RDC Mubende, DISO Mubende, Vice Chairperson NRM, and the Chairperson Veterans League. The letter warns that failure to appear will be considered an “admission of guilt” and could result in additional disciplinary action as per the NRM Constitution.
