KAMPALA – 23 September 2025: The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa as a duly nominated candidate in the 2026 presidential elections.
Making the announcement in Kampala, Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, confirmed that Museveni had successfully fulfilled all the requirements stipulated under the Presidential Elections Act.
Following the nomination, the Commission directed Museveni’s campaign team to submit a schedule of campaign meetings and media engagements as soon as possible. Justice Byabakama emphasized that this would enable the smooth harmonization of all presidential candidates’ programs across the country.
In line with the law, Museveni’s team also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Electoral Commission, committing to comply with the harmonized campaign timelines and guidelines.
Additionally, as required under the Presidential Elections Act, the Commission handed over the national voters’ register in soft copy to Museveni’s official agent, ensuring that the candidate has access to voter information ahead of the campaigns.
With this development, Museveni joins the list of candidates cleared to vie for the presidency in 2026, marking another milestone in Uganda’s electoral roadmap.
