Nomination of MPs for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), EC reminds Aspirants of Dates and requirements

KAMPALA, 20 OCTOBER 2026: In line with Section 8 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177, the Electoral Commission (EC) appointed Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025, as the dates for nomination of candidates for election of Member of Parliament representing the following Special Interest Groups (SIGs); Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers; and Youths.
The Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama further called upon aspirants for MPs representing SIGs and all stakeholders in the electoral process to take note of the above dates but also ensure compliance with the requirements for the nomination procedure.
According to the notice from EC, the nominations shall be conducted at the EC Headquarters, located at Plot 1-3/5 Seventh Street, Industrial Area, Kampala, and shall begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates.
Furthermore, an aspiring candidate for Member of Parliament shall be a citizen of Uganda and a registered voter, and will be required to fulfill all the requirements for nomination as highlighted in the nomination guidelines for each Special Interest Group, that is, Older Persons; Persons with Disabilities; Workers; and Youths.
Byabakama noted that aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and guidelines for nominations for the above elective positions from the Electoral Commission Headquarters in Kampala, or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines from the Electoral Commission website: ec.or.ug.
