Edward Katumba Wamala, has issued a formal statement expressing deep condolences following a tragic fatal road crash that occurred along the Kampala-Gulu Highway on October 22, 2025. The accident, which involved multiple vehicles, took place at Kitaleeba Village.
Preliminary Findings and Condolences:
In the statement, released on October 23, 2025, the Minister’s office extended its “deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives.”
Preliminary reports from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety indicate that the crash was primarily caused by speeding and dangerous overtaking.
“Preliminary reports… indicate that the crash involved multiple vehicles and was caused by speeding and dangerous overtaking, a reminder of how one act of recklessness can cost dozens of innocent lives,” the statement read.
Commendation and Ongoing Investigation:
Gen. Katumba Wamala commended the immediate response efforts of the Uganda Police Force, emergency response teams, and medical staff of Kiryandongo Hospital for their swift assistance at the scene.
The Ministry of Works and Transport confirmed it is working closely with the Uganda Police Force and local authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
