Mityana, Uganda – November 21, 2025 – Police in Mityana district are grappling with two separate but simultaneous cases of suspected child stealing that occurred on November 11, 2025, appealing to the public for information as they follow critical investigative leads, including CCTV footage.
The two cases, registered as CRB1156/2025 and CRB1159/2025 at Mityana Central Police Station, have left the community and police searching for a newborn baby girl and a three-year-old female juvenile.
The first reported incident took place at approximately 12:50 PM at Mityana General Hospital maternity ward.
According to a press statement released today by SSP Lameck Kigozi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Wamala Region, the victim, Edith Ndiyomufasha, a resident of Serunyonyi village, Kalangaalo subcounty, had just been discharged after giving birth to a baby girl two days earlier.
While organizing her luggage, Ms. Ndiyomufasha was befriended by an unknown woman inside the hospital. The stranger offered to help carry the infant, and Ms. Ndiyomufasha tragically handed over her baby. When she finished organizing her belongings, she discovered the woman had fled with the child.
Police confirmed that they are closely following investigation leads with the aid of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in connection with this hospital incident.
Toddler Vanishes from Home
On the very same day, Mityana Police received a second complaint of child stealing.
Ms. Nantume Sarah, a resident of Kitinkokola A cell, South Ward, Ttamu division of Mityana Municipality, reported her three-year-old daughter, Nasuuna Blessing, missing.
Ms. Nantume had left Nasuuna Blessing in the house with her six-year-old sister, Nakachwa Prossy, while she went out to catch grasshoppers (Nsenene). Upon her return, only the elder child was found. Nasuuna Blessing has not been recovered up to the present date.
Police Appeal to the Public
While no breakthrough has yet led to the recovery of the children, SSP Kigozi made a direct plea to the community.
”We appeal to the general public in Mityana who could be having any information valuable in supporting our investigations which could lead to the recovery of these babies to assist us with such information as it will be kept confidential,” the statement read.
Police also issued a stern warning to the perpetrators: “We also appeal to people who stole these babies to hand them over to authorities to avoid the full force of the Law when caught in possession of these wanted babies.”
The search for both the newborn and Nasuuna Blessing remains active as Mityana Police intensify their efforts to bring the children home safely.
