MANCHESTER, UK – Manchester United have officially announced the departure of Head Coach Ruben Amorim, ending his tenure at Old Trafford after just over a year in charge.
The decision comes as the club sits sixth in the Premier League table, a position the board felt necessitated immediate action to salvage their domestic campaign.
A Brief Tenure of Highs and Lows
Amorim was appointed in November 2024 with the mission of restoring United to the pinnacle of English football. While his time at the club was relatively short, it was marked by a significant European run. Under his guidance, United reached the UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May 2025, though they were unable to secure the trophy.
Despite that continental success, inconsistent league form ultimately led to the board’s decision. In an official statement, the club expressed that the move was made “reluctantly” but was necessary to provide the squad with the “best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
”The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future,” the statement read.
What’s Next for the Red Devils?
United have wasted no time in establishing a temporary leadership structure. Darren Fletcher has been tasked with taking immediate charge of the first team.
Fletcher’s first test will come quickly, as he leads the side against Burnley this Wednesday. The club is expected to begin a thorough search for a permanent successor immediately to ensure stability heading into the final stages of the season.
