NTUNGAMO, UGANDA: 27 January 2026- KK Group founder, Taban Idro Senior, has been honoured with the Mustard Seed Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to entrepreneurship, investment and economic transformation in Uganda. The award was presented by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the inaugural Mustard Seed Awards Dinner held at the Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo, an event that brought together leading entrepreneurs and industrialists whose work has driven job creation and industrial growth.
Taban Idro Senior was recognised for building one of Uganda’s most diversified indigenous business groups from humble beginnings. His entrepreneurial journey began 43 years ago in Arua, where he traded in eggs before gradually expanding into transport and logistics. Over the decades, this growth culminated in the establishment of KK Group, a multi-million-dollar enterprise with interests in transport logistics, real estate, hospitality, mining and education.
In his remarks at the awards ceremony, President Museveni commended award recipients for their role in supporting Uganda’s industrialization agenda, value addition and private sector led development. The Mustard Seed Awards recognise entrepreneurs whose investments have had a measurable impact on employment, regional development and national economic growth.
The award was received on Taban Idro Senior’s behalf by his son, Taban Idro Jr, a Group Director at KK Group and Managing Director of KK Travellers, together with his wife, Pamela A. Taban, the General Manager of Sanyu FM. Idro Jr has played a growing role in the group’s operations while also pursuing environmental advocacy through ZerowasteAfrica. He is also known for his work in promoting sustainable urban living and responsible consumption.

Other recipients of the Mustard Seed Award included Barbara Mulwana, Sudhir Ruparelia, Amos Nzeyi, Emmanuel Katongole, Omar Mandela, Aisha Monpara, Sikander Lalani, Hao Zhang, Paul Zhang, Barak Orland, Gaster Lule, Joseph Yiga, Jennifer Mwijukye and Florence of Landy Industries Limited, reflecting a broad spectrum of sectors from manufacturing and agribusiness to finance and trade.
Looking ahead, KK Group is preparing to embark on its most ambitious project to date, the Arua Highly Specialised Medical Hospital. The planned 100 million dollar investment is expected to significantly improve access to advanced healthcare services in Northern Uganda, create employment opportunities and boost medical tourism.
Industry observers say Taban Idro Senior’s recognition underscores the importance of long-term investment, reinvestment of profits and entrepreneurship rooted in regional development. His story is often cited as an example of how small-scale enterprise can grow into nationally significant investment through persistence and vision.
