Tragedy at Kyakatebe: 6 Dead, Several Injured in Mityana-Mubende Highway Crash

KASSANDA MUBENDE: 08 February 2026 – Six people have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident on the Mityana-Mubende highway. A significant number of injured survivors were rushed to various hospitals in critical condition.

​The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM yesterday in the Kyakatebe area, Kassanda District, along the road connecting Mubende and Mityana.

​According to eyewitnesses, a Toyota Hiace (registration UBQ 154R) traveling from Mityana attempted to overtake and collided head-on with a Link bus (registration UBE 535H) heading toward Kampala.

In the chaotic aftermath, the drivers of both the taxi and the bus reportedly fled the scene and remain at large.

Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, confirmed the fatalities, noting that the bodies of the deceased were transported to Kiganda Health Center IV for post-mortem examinations. He also noted that the number of injured is high, with many victims transported to nearby facilities in critical condition.
