Tragedy in Ggaba: Four Children Killed in Daycare Attack; Suspect Apprehended

GGABA, ​KAMPALA: 02 APRIL 2026– A dark cloud has fallen over Ggaba Parish in Makindye Division following a horrific attack at a local daycare center that left four young children dead on Thursday morning.

​The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program. According to police reports, a man entered the facility and began attacking the defenseless pupils.

​Police Response and Arrest

​Uganda Police Force spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that officers from the Ggaba Police station responded to an urgent distress call from the center. Upon arrival, responding officers were able to intercept and arrest the suspect at the scene.

​The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Okello Christopher Onyum. He is currently in police custody and is undergoing interrogation.

​The Victims

​In a heartbreaking update, preliminary findings confirmed that four minors succumbed to injuries sustained during the assault. The victims, all pupils of the same daycare facility, have been identified as:

Eteku Gideon, 2 years old

Kaise Alungat, 2 years old

Ignatius Sserwange, 3 years old

Ryan Odeke, 2 years old

​Ongoing Investigation

​The motive behind the “heinous crime” remains unknown. Police investigators are currently working to piece together Onyum’s background and the circumstances that led to the midday tragedy.

​”The Uganda Police Force extends its deepest condolences to the affected families and assures the public that all efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation and justice for the victims,” Kituuma stated.

​The community remains in shock as the site of the attack is processed by forensic teams. Authorities have promised to provide further updates as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation.
