Police has ruled out any links between a recent attack in Nansana by thugs armed with pangas, to the vicious killings in Greater Masaka.
In a statement released on Monday, Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga says the attack in Nansana “was purely an attempted burglary” and not linked to the killings in Masaka and Lwengo.
On Friday night, thugs armed with pangas broke into rental premises in Kibwa, Nabweru in Nansana Municipality but fled after a burglar alarm went off. In a video from CCTV footage captured by security cameras mounted on premises, the attackers seemed to be less interested in property which raised suspicion that they were part of the gangs from Greater Masaka.
Police says it’s Directorates for ICT and Forensic services are analyzing the Private CCTV footages, but applauded a one Kayemba Paul Sempijja, the owner of the premises, for installing deterrent devices against burglaries and related thugs.
Police encouraged members of the public, home owners and residents to embrace such deterents to reinforce home security.
“Some of the top deterrents for burglars are CCTV cameras, dogs, motion-activated security lights, strong heavy doors and walls, alarms, strong neighborhood watch designated areas, cars parked in garages, etc.”
Police also advised that having the contacts of the nearest security unit or local leaders helps in countering such burglars.
