MUKONO, UGANDA: AUGUST 05, 2025 – Seeta High School released a public statement in relation to a disturbing incident involving a male Senior Six student found dead in the school’s swimming pool on Sunday, August 3, 2025. According to the statement, signed by Principal Kafumbe Davis, the tragedy occurred on Sunday evening after a group of Senior Six students were returning from a football match.
On Monday morning, rumours of a student’s death spread through Mukono town. Parents, teachers and residents, whispered about the incident, but neither school administrators nor local police issued a formal statement. Attempts to get confirmation from the school and area police failed. It was only later that Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident and the deceased – a 21-year-old Kevin Nsamba who was a Senior Six student residing in the school boarding section.
According to the statement issued on August 05, 2025 a number of students, acting without authorization and outside the school’s established guidelines, ran towards and jumped into the swimming pool. Among them was the student who tragically drowned, who the school’s administration noted did not know how to swim.
The school administration claim they were initially unaware of the incident, and the student’s absence was only discovered during a later roll call.
Upon realizing a student was missing, the school’s administration and security team immediately launched a search and notified the police. A broader joint search was conducted, which ultimately led to the discovery of the student’s body in the swimming pool. The police have since recovered the body.
“This heartbreaking incident has left the entire Seeta High School community in deep sorrow,” the statement read. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the parents, family, friends, and fellow students during this difficult time. We mourn this great loss and pray that his soul may rest in eternal peace.”
However, this tragedy comes just months after the unresolved death of Elishama Ssesaazi, a 16-year-old Senior Three student at Seeta High School’s main campus. He was reported to have taken his own life, but police investigations remain inconclusive. The two cases have intensified concerns about student safety across Seeta High Schools, which are owned by State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo.
The incident also raised questions about student supervision and safety protocols, particularly concerning unauthorized access to restricted areas like the swimming pool. As the community grapples with the loss, many are calling for a thorough review of school policies to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
