KAMPALA UGANDA: 09 April 2026— In a major move to bridge the gender gap in the business sector, the Government of Uganda is implementing the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project. This nationwide initiative is designed to transform the landscape for female entrepreneurs by providing them with the professional tools and confidence needed to scale their businesses.
Implemented through a partnership between the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), the project receives substantial backing from the World Bank.
The GROW Project is built on the philosophy of “Confidence to Decide,” aiming to empower women not just financially, but through comprehensive professional development. The initiative offers a multi-faceted support system that includes: Tailored Training: Equipping women with modern technical and managerial skills, Business Support & Coaching: Providing mentorship to navigate the complexities of running an enterprise.
Grow Project also supports women entrepreneurs with Market Linkages: Connecting women-owned businesses to larger domestic and international markets to ensure sustainable growth.
The project’s central mantra—“My Voice. My Choice. My Growth.”—underscores its commitment to increasing the productivity and competitiveness of women-owned enterprises across the country.
By leveraging the expertise of the PSFU and the regulatory oversight of the Ministry of Gender, the GROW Project aims to create a more inclusive economy. The collaboration ensures that resources reach women in various sectors, from manufacturing and agriculture to services and trade.
A representative of the project noted that the integration of coaching and market access is vital for strengthening the “enterprise growth” of women who have traditionally faced barriers to entry in high-value value chains.
